OBSERVED MOTORCYCLE TRIALS

SLICKROCK SUNDAYS

Trials Riding
Improve your trials skills by riding slickrock formations, slabs and boulders, and pick up some great tips from the experts. On Sundays during the fall, winter and spring, trials riders from Big Bear get together with their friends for practice. Anyone with a trials motorcycle, regardless of age or skill level, is invited to come to these outings in the Johnson Valley OHV area. Arrive around 10:00 AM, introduce yourself, and join right in.

Directions to Cougar Butte: From Big Bear, take Hwy. 18 down the back way towards Lucerne Valley. Make a right onto Camp Rock Road, shortly after passing the Mitsubishi Cement Plant. Head North on Camp Rock Road, crossing Hwy. 247 (Old Woman Springs Road). Continue 3.3 miles to where the high-tension power lines cross Camp Rock Road, and make a right onto the dirt road that parallels the power lines. Head East, following the power line road for 2.1 miles to where it merges with Granite Road (unmarked dirt road) coming in at a sharp angle from your left. Immediately turn right and follow the main 4WD track, heading South for 0.6 miles while keeping the rock formations on your right, finally passing a big, smooth rock slab. Turn right into the large open area and park your vehicle. You'll know you're in the right place when you see trials riders practicing on the rocky outcrops.
